Its memorial day and the stories of soldiers and what they sacrificed are told all over the US. Stories told of bravery, brotherhood, and sacrifice. Sad tales of mothers and widows with nothing to show for their loved one but a tri-folded flag. Once a year we as One Nation remember them. We collectively open our hearts and say…… What do you say? Appreciation doesn’t seem enough. To the fallen soldier do you say “thank you”? To the soldiers with scars do you say “we are here for you”? To the family who will never see their loved one again do you say “…..silence…”? I would just cry with them. There is no one thing to say. Words can’t express the gratitude, and the love we have for the loss. It’s like admiration and sorrow is wrapped up together in one emotion.
Though all these things are good to say, I think how we live is the perfect answer to our quest. Living as a free person and pursuing happiness seems to be the best answer. In everything we do daily, in every small action of liberty, and every reach to aid your fellow man is a good way to honor them. It’s our turn to defend liberty and freedom. We do it by living as free men and woman. Every day we wake up under the Flag, every day we engage in free commerce and free action and we defend Liberty’s cause. Not with shame or remorse, but with our heads held high with pride. If they did not give it all for us and for liberty then it is a true tragedy. If you listen deep within, you can hear “Live for liberty!” calling out to us from the Tomb of the Unknown. Every memorial speaks to our souls to “bask in freedom.” A true act of love is giving it all without the promise of the desired outcome. But we know the outcome and we are truly grateful. So we will never forget, we will never lay down the flag of freedom, and we will never let the ideals of the fallen die.
That all men are created equal…………
